Face Value: How Keeping Your Face Clean Can Prevent Acne

For most of us, and rightly so, taking care of the face is the most important part of our skincare regimen. However, the importance of taking care of your face increases manifold when acne becomes part of the equation. Therefore, when you feel that there is even a remote chance that acne is entering your life, step up your skincare regimen, particularly for your face.

Research has proved that proper skincare can actually help treat your acne, as well as prevent it. Working on the ‘prevention is better than cure’ principle, work to minimize your acne flare-ups rather than depend on over-the-counter drugs to get you out of trouble once acne has set in. And for the love of God and His cherubim, do not try and ‘uproot’ your acne lesions. That is one skincare routine you can do without.

“First up, whether you have dry, normal, or oily skin, do not use harsh chemicals on your face. In most cases, these will either exacerbate already existing acne, or leave your face vulnerable to a new attack. The ideal solution is to not use soap at all. Instead, opt for mild face wash with anti-oxidant properties that will contain acne-causing bacteria.

“As an appendix to that, if you have excessively oily skin, an antibacterial soap for your face is an option, because your face will not dry as rapidly as others.

“While washing your face, DO NOT SCRUB. We are yelling, we know, but a staggering number of people believe that scrubbing hard will get rid of acne or at least clean better. That is rubbish, with due respect, because what it does is rob your skin of essential moisture. What you should do is gently remove oil and dirt from your pores – allow it to soak out – and pat your face dry later so that it does not become dry and rough.

“When you are done washing, apply some lotion on your face that enhances moisture content. Once again, this is not strictly necessary for those with excessively oily skin, but for normal to dry skin types, an anti-oxidant lotion is a good idea.

“How many times should you wash your face? That is an important part of your acne skincare regimen, and we suggest you do so at least thrice. For normal to dry skin, you could use face wash twice and plain water the third time, while those with oily skin can use mild soap or face wash all three times.

The bottom line: keep the skin on your face clean, but don’t brutalize it by scrubbing. Cleanliness keeps bacteria and dirt under control, and these are two of the biggest contributing factors to acne.

Acne- Can I Block Sebum To Stop Acne

Acne is caused because of sebum. If sebum were not there, acne would not be there. Can i block sebum like we do with sweat? If I can do that, I will never get acne. How do I block sebum? Let me answer.

What is sebum?

Sebum is the oil rich in lipids. Sebum is produced by sebaceous glands that are attached to hair follicles. Except for places such as lips etc, we have hair all over our body. And so we have the glands that produce sebum all over our body.

What does sebum do?

Sebum is acidic oil. It forms an acidic layer over the skin. This layer is called acid mantle. This acid mantle stops all the bacteria that want to invade the skin. It kills them. This acid mantle also protects the top layer of the skin made of dead cells and keeps the moisture inside the skin. Otherwise the moisture will evaporate fast.

Acne and sebum- the connection

When we produce more sebum, we get oily skin. Similarly when our glands produce more sebum and because of block on the glands the sebum gets blocked in the glands, we get acne. Why do the glands get blocked? That has a connection with hormones. Unless the glands are blocked, you will not get acne. The sebum will flow out.

Sebum- can we block it?

Till now nothing has been found to block the sebum production. With aging it reduces , but in young age, you can not block it with any method. You can remove the excess from your skin with oil absorbent cosmetics and skin care products. To think of stopping sebum is not good, because sebum is a very good friend of our skin. What we need to do is to stop acne with other methods so that the glands don’t get blocked.

Use Cryotherapy To Treat Your Acne

Names sometimes totally mislead. Mr. Fairbrother may in reality be a very wicked man. Mr. Grant may be a miser who is never willing to give a shilling in donation. Cryotherapy has nothing to do with your tears. But it is a system of treatment for your acne.

There are several methods to treat acne. The severity and nature of attack of acne varies from individual to individual. If one particular medication was the panacea for all types of acne, thousands of over the counter medications would not have thrived.

Cryotherapy has dual purposes. This technique checks future eruptions. The immediate purpose of cryotherapy, which in fact is the freezing treatment, is to check the spread of surface skin lesions by using liquid nitrogen, which is also known as cryogens like carbon dioxide snow.

Your dermatologist will not suggest you to use cryotherapy straightaway. This is one aspect of the total treatment relating to acne. It is proper and in the fitness of things to treat your acne with the trusted over the counter medications and topical agents. Sometimes, the response could be very slow.

Avoid cosmetics, with strong aroma. If you use them when you are under the attack of acne, it will cause you lots of skin irritation. Stop using greasy ointments and vegetable oils, lanolin, alcohol, parabens and oleic acid related cosmetics.

In case of attack of acne that will not respond to over the counter medications, say within two weeks, take note to visit the dermatologist. Treatment at his office has some psychological security, which you need most when acne bothers you. They have a routine procedure to remove comedon for which a loop device is used. They do it so carefully, and no scarring results from this procedure.

Finally, if your doctor advises cryotherapy you will see that the results of this treatment are immediate, and without any side effects. Though, the therapy may cause drying and peeling of the affected skin area.

Your acne treatment is not yet complete, even after cryotherapy. Continue to apply helpful oils like jojoba oil, coconut oil and lavender oil on the skin. This will help skin to recoup its original health.
