Acne is a common problem and as such, it has a lot of treatments available. Most people who are dealing with acne go to their local drug store and buy one of the many over-the-counter medications, often based on ads they’ve seen on TV or in magazines.

The better way to choose the medication, however, is to consult with a doctor or pharmacist to get their informed recommendation. Even though acne is common – and in many cases fairly minor – a health care professional will be able to suggest the best treatment for your particular form of acne.

Deciding on which product to use can be tough, with the large selection to choose from. It’s a good idea to have some knowledge of the various ingredients in acne treatments to help you make an informed choice.

One of the most widely used ingredients in acne medication is benzoyl peroxide. It’s found in various gels and ointments and does its job by fighting the bacteria that cause pimples. It will also work well for removing dead skin cells. These dead skin cells combine with sebum to form the blackheads and whiteheads that are common with acne.

Benzoyl peroxide has been shown as a safe and effective treatments for minimizing lesions. You can continue to use it after your acne has cleared up to help keep your skin acne free.

The primary side effect from benzoyl peroxide use is dry skin, which you can minimize by decreasing how often you apply it. It also stains clothing and can bleach your hair, so be careful when using it.

Another common ingredient in acne products is salicylic acid. This help to clear away the dead skin cells that can lead to blackheads and whiteheads. Using these products after your acne has cleared up will help to avoid future problems. The main side effect from this ingredient is again dry skin.

Other ingredients you will often see in acne treatments are resorcinol and sulphur. Of all these ingredients, benzoyl peroxide is really the most versatile. It can be used in bars or liquid cleaners, lotions, gels and creams, giving you lots of options to choose from.

So what do you think causes acne scars? Do you know anything about treating acne or how to cure your scars? Well most people don’t now how to treat or remove the acne scars and this can be a very frustrating situation for most people. An acne scar is simple, it’s an injury to the tissue. Scars are visible reminders of injury to the tissue that is need of repair. Although acne is due to a injury that’s caused when the body has an inflammatory response to sebum, dead cells and bacteria that enter the plugged sebaceous follicle. Their are 2 types of scars that are know to be depressed areas of the skin such as ice-pick scars and also raised thickened skin tissue such as keloids.

When a person’s skin tissue has an injury, the body responds by immediately sending repair to the injury. The repair is amongst the elements of white blood cells and inflammatory molecules that are responsible for repair and fighting infection. When the task is done the repair team may leave your skin tissue the form of fibrous scar tissue, or some what of an eroded skin tissue.

The inflammatory molecules and white blood cells some times will remain at a repair site of an active acne lesion some times weeks. Most people are susceptible to scarring, in turn the result some times may be an acne scar. Since the incidence of the scarring is still not well understood, although there are considerable variations of one scarring incidents between one person and another, this indicates that some people are more susceptible to scarring than others. Frequently scarring results from very severe inflammatory nodulocystic acne which will occur deep with in the skin. Although, scarring sometimes may come from more superficial inflamed acne lesions.

The total life span of scars is not well understood either but research has shown that genetics do play a role in acne. Although sometimes people will bear their acne scars for their whole life with little or no change in the scars. Then sometimes in other people the skin gets repaired to some degree and the acne scars decrease in size.

Sometimes people will also have different degrees of feelings about their acne scars. The same scars may have a bigger or profound affect on one person and then be accepted by another person. Research has shown that one seems distressed by the scars more is highly more likely to seek treatment for the scars sooner.

Predicting who will scar is highly difficult. It is also hard to tell exactly how deep or extensive the scars will be and how the life span of the scars.

So a good method and the only sure method of preventing and limiting the affects of acne scars and their life span is to treat at the first signs of acne, and continue to wash and treat face regularly even when no signs are available. The more you can treat your inflammation the more acne can be prevented and in turn the more likely you are to prevent scars.
